Women have been and are being wrongfully denied knowledge, rights and access to equal expression particularly those that deal with a women’s sexual, intimate or reproductive health. These issues are often overlooked and/or ignored because people find them uncomfortable to talk about. However, the only path to change is through positive communication, understanding and support not just in compassion but also in action.
Modern sex education does little to promote positive female sexuality but instead perpetuates the idea that women should safe guard their virginity for her self-worth is tied directly to her purity. When she is no longer pure, she is no longer valuable. Women who have lost their virginity whether by choice or more often than not, by rape have been bullied, publicly shamed or humiliated, cast out of their respective society or in an increasing disturbing trend; committed suicide. Things need to change. Let’s talk about sex, baby. Let’s make this not taboo.
We want to start a conversation. We want to call attention to how our society shames sexuality. Often female sexuality. The Smear Campaign advocates for a woman’s right to healthy, responsible and informed sexual expression. We aim to bring social change through education and awareness to the way women are perceived and treated. Explicitly, matters that are socially deemed as inappropriate because they involve female sexuality and a woman’s right to know about their own bodies. We hope to affect change in the lives of women worldwide.
